Order of the Laurel

In 2008, King Thorstenn and Queen Zephyrine honored me
with membership in the most honorable Order of the Laurel.
The Vigil

My then household,  "The most noble Order of the Nut and The Squirrel," organized my vigil at Cutlasses & Corsairs 2008. The Vigil began Friday, January 11, 2008, at 8:00pm and lasted until about 3am. The invitation was open to all the Populace of Trimaris.  While I welcomed all counsel during my vigil, guests were invited to partake of the refreshments and entertainment in the adjoining pavilion.

A vigil book was available all day Friday and Saturday for those wishing to leave advice and well wishes and those who were not able to arrive in time for the vigil.

The vigil was hosted by Lady Milica od Soli, Lady Martine Beauvarlet, and Lady Darlene of Richmond. My lord husband, Lord Suibhne McBurke, and HL Ennea an Catha an Duna served as my vigil guards.

The Elevation Ceremony

Since there is no standard ceremony for the elevation to the Order of the Laurel in the Kingdom of Trimaris, Master Terafan and I enjoyed cooking up our own version based on our love for medieval pageantry, "properness" and a dash of court 'schtick'. What follows is the transcript of my ceremony.

My Laurel Scroll

I think that choosing the scribe and the general design for my Laurel scroll was one of the easier, possibly even the easiest task to do while planning the elevation. I had long admired the work of the then Honorable Lady, now Mistress Finneadan aka Eadain ingen Ruadhain, and I was thrilled when she agreed to take the commission for my Laurel scroll.

The wording

The wording for my scroll is based on the letters patent for Nicholas Hilliard and a writ granting certain rights and privileges written by Elizabeth I to one of her glovemakers. It is quite wordy but I wanted a real writ, a truly medieval document. I think it went onto the record as "the scroll that wouldn't end" after court.
